The quick take
Colostrum is the first milk produced after birth. Supplements usually contain bovine colostrum, a mixture of proteins and other milk components.
A closer look
What forms will I see on a label?
Powders and capsules may state total colostrum weight and an immunoglobulin (IgG) percentage. Compare both; total powder weight is not the IgG amount. Bovine colostrum is milk-derived.
Why people use it
People use colostrum for gut and immune-support goals. Athletes and bodybuilders also choose it for recovery and resilience during demanding training.
These are common goals and marketing uses. The evidence section below explains what research supports.
What does the evidence tell us?
Small human trials have examined gut permeability during training, with differing results across studies. These findings do not establish that every colostrum product improves digestion, prevents illness or increases muscle growth.
What should I know before using it?
Avoid bovine colostrum with a milk-protein allergy. Lactose content varies, so check the label if lactose is a concern. Persistent digestive symptoms deserve individual assessment.
