A closer look
What forms will I see on a label?
Labels may list L-arginine or arginine alpha-ketoglutarate (AAKG). Compare the amount and form rather than assuming they are interchangeable.
Why people use it
Marketed for blood flow and workout pumps, with the goal of supporting strength-training performance.
These are common goals and marketing uses. The evidence section below explains what research supports.
What does the evidence tell us?
Its role in nitric oxide production does not guarantee a stronger workout pump. Research has not consistently shown exercise-performance benefits from supplemental arginine.
What should I know before using it?
Larger supplemental amounts can cause nausea or diarrhoea. Check suitability with a pharmacist if you use medicines that affect blood pressure.
