The quick take

Dendrobium is a genus of orchids. Different species and extracts should not be treated as the same supplement ingredient.

A closer look

What forms will I see on a label?

Check the full botanical name, plant part and extract information. A blend containing Dendrobium is not evidence for a standalone Dendrobium effect.

Why people use it

Dendrobium has appeared in pre-workout blends marketed for energy and exercise performance. A blend's advertised benefits cannot be assumed to come from dendrobium alone.

These are common goals and marketing uses. The evidence section below explains what research supports.

What does the evidence tell us?

A published pre-workout trial examined a multi-ingredient product containing Dendrobium, creatine and betaine. That design cannot isolate the effect of Dendrobium itself.

What should I know before using it?

Do not infer stimulant strength or safety from the plant name. Review the full formula, including caffeine and other active ingredients.
